Quarantine day 17

Today’s highlight is that John made bread. It tasted exactly like a 44 year old making bread for the first time in the middle of a lockdown sound like it would taste.

The latest update nationally is that things will be closed until April 30. It is terrifying.

John's band practices in the upstairs area. I was trying to sound proof it a little better. That was exhausting in itself but fingers crossed, it helps with noise outside.

Quarantine Day 16

Thank goodness for the insanity that is on TV now. The memes coming from it are amazing. One day we will have to describe it but now we can enjoy the memes. I don't think we would have made it without Tiger King.

Quarantine Day 16

Emmy graced us with her presence for a movie today. I’m still trying to paint cushions to use by the pool this summer but Iam almost convinced it will be cheaper to buy new.

Emmy has wanted donuts when I do leave the house and I haven’t gotten by before closing time. Today was serindipiotous that KFC had donuts and chicken. Score!

I was supposed to throw an engagement party for my amazing executive assistant and her fiancé today. Obviously that did not happen.

Quarantine Day 15

I worked from home and Emmy did math work. Emmy helped John replace the garden bed edging in the front yard while I power washed all the brick ways. The excitement is overwhelming.

Quarantine Day 14

John is attempting to make his own bread.

Trump extended the shut down through April 30th.

Quarantine Day 13

In an attempt to get people to stay at home, all the rules have changed. Tennessee state law does not allow restaurants to serve alcohol to go. Now that we are not allowed to eat in restaurants, we can do delivery and have cocktails ready to go. I have never seen this anywhere but New Orleans in the early 90s when you could pull away with a daiquiri!

Quarantine Day 12

The best way to describe things around Burton Manor is to say that John is currently drinking whiskey from a salad dressing cruet. President Trump said today that he hoped the country was up and running by Easter. People promptly lost their minds. I think his attempts at optimism come across as not believing the virus is a real threat.

Oh it is real all right.

I went in the office today and made the difficult decision to close all branch access except for drive thrus at two of our offices. All of our remaining staff are working remotely now. I never imagined this would be possibl

e for us. It's not the best and we don't love it but it is what we have to do right now.

Quarantine Day 9

I had a trip to New York that was put on hold because of the virus. Tina and I were making our second annual Broadway trip and it was cancelled. Obviously there is always another time, but to say it wasn't disappointing would be untrue.

Quarantine Day 7

All sports have been cancelled for the time being. No basketball, no golf, no baseball and no end in sight. ESPN has been airing old games and even the competitive spelling bee.

Quarantine Day 5

John was apparently bored and made sure all of his cohorts upstairs were protected.

Quarantine Day 2

Where is the toilet paper? Everyone got freaked out and rushed out buy what they needed --isn't TP the first? But then they couldn't keep up with it and now when it comes back, people hoard it again and so it continues. There are limits on TP, bleach, Lysol and rubbing alcohol when you can find it.

Quarantine Day 1

Today is the first day of however long this spring break is going to be!!!

As we pulled into the drop off for school yesterday, we received a call that spring break would be starting a day early and last one week longer as well. This was quite exciting as you can imagine!
Since she is out of school, I had Emmy update the message board. I thought it would be a good writing experience for her. It did not go well. She did two days and then got fired.

Coronavirus COVID19

It started on the other side of the world and has left a lot of people in its wake but the virus is finally in the US. While it is scary in its own right, it is terrifying to see the panic and pandemonium happening.

It is times like these that are scarier than anything else on my job. With 9 branches and 150 employees, I’m nervous about making the right decision. Schools are closed so parents have no where for kids to be, they can't come to the office, we don't work from home because of security reasons, what do you do? I also hate the idea that some employees (backoffice or higher paid) can work from home but others can't (tellers).

Today was a big day of questions and what to do's. Employees are scared--their families are scared. People have turned this into a political issue and everyone is commenting from behind their screens, safely at home, with things that they would never say to each other.
