She's Mine (again)

If there was any doubt, here is our girl with her hair in a ponytail, proof positive that she is all MINE!

Father's Day

On Saturday, we headed to Wynne to see the Jacksons for Father’s Day. Richie and LynnLynn met us at Neall and Becca’s. Emmy Ruth and Sol have so much fun together. They are just adorable. As soon as we got there, we heard a loud bang. They had gotten into a chair together and as they were rocking, they pushed it over backwards. Thankfully no one was hurt and they managed to continue using the chair in its position. And no, she isn’t wearing underwear. This was immediately after a potty attempt and she took off running without her pants. Classy gal, she is.

Then, Sol so graciously offered to let ER cool off in his pool. And she sprayed him. She really needs to work on HER graciousness.

It was a wonderful Father’s Day weekend, completed on Sunday with a lazy day at home for us with John.

The week so far.

Last night, Emmy Ruth insisted on reading her books to me. It was hysterical. We have to read Five Little Monkeys every single night and she read it to me and would hit the high spots like “jumping on the bed” and “knocked his head” and “called the doctor”. When the monkey was crying, she kissed him to make him feel better and then told me it was my turn. She also has a book with pictures of kids and a single word like happy or shy, etc. She has always loved this book and last night, she was actually saying the correct word with each page. To say that she was proud of herself is an understatement!!

Monday night, another storm rolled through Memphis and our TV must have gotten a surge or something. The picture is no longer working and the lamp light is blinking so I have ordered a new lamp and hope that it arrives soon. For now, because we of course cannot possibly go without, John has moved an old TV into the living room and has it sitting on the floor. I guess it is just Emmy’s size as she will bring her Dora chair up to it and watch. John kept telling her last night to move back and it reminded of Daddy making Neall and I sit with our backs touching the couch when we watched TV or “you’ll go blind!!!!!!!” Sometimes Emmy says that she wants to watch THAT ONE and points at the big TV. Because we can’t access our DVR on the temporary TV, we are afraid she is having Dora withdrawals.

Potty Training. Argh. We were doing so well and then…. I am not sure what happened yesterday but we had some major setbacks. I told Emmy she was a big girl and she told me she wasn’t. I told her she didn’t want to wear diapers and she said that she did. That girl is quite something.

Mickey D's

I am ashamed to say that this child has never been to a McDonald’s playground. There is one way out east but none in Memphis, so she has missed out. Since we were in Wynne for FarmFest, we headed there before we left town. You would have thought these kids were at DisneyWorld. Next time, I will take some ears and tell them that we are really in Florida!!!

Julia! Joy!

Emmy was so happy to have Julia come to visit us for a while on Sunday. She must think she is really so much bigger than Julia because she kept telling her to lie down and would try to cover her up with her blankey. She couldn’t stand that Julia had her shoes on either; it must be terribly uncomfortable!

ER was so embarrassed that she didn’t have any toys for them to play with when Julia was here.

Farm Fest 2009

I bet if I looked really hard, I could find a picture of Momma and I wearing Fun Fest shirts when I was a kid. I can see that picture in my mind. The shirts were white with blue ringers on the neck and sleeves and had blue lettering. Well, this year's shirt is just as special. Not only did my sister in law design the shirt, but she and my brother were in charge of the whole darn thing. I am so proud of them.

What an undertaking for them--chairing the festival, deciding to move it back to its 'home' downtown, all while expecting Rose in a month. There is no telling what all really went down as the festival preparations were underway. That is just what you would expect from Neall and Becca. They are doers, not complainers; always have been.

I know that Momma is so very proud of the Doctors Jackson too.

Summer Lovin'

Get in the CAR!

Saturday we were headed to Jonesboro and I thought I was going to lose my mind! The giant box has moved from the living room to the front porch and she still loves it. I am sure my neighbors thought I was nuts when I was in the front yard yelling for her to “GET IN THE CAR!” and she continued to merrily play in the box on the porch.

Little Sweet Nothings

Our girl has been sleeping in her bed for over a week now! We are so proud of her! When we first started this, she would say she wanted to go to her bed and then turn to go into our bedroom. Now, she is saying she is ready for bed and takes our hand and leads us to her room. About half of the time, she wakes up in the middle of the night and I just put her in our bed, but at least she is going to sleep in her room. Such a big girl. Last night, I snuggled up to John and he whispered, “I miss Emmy”. He’s such a romantic.

Emmy Ruth is doing so well at school. They are working on potty training and she has done a great job. She is having a few accidents here and there, but for the most part, she has done great.  There is a water fountain at her school and every morning and afternoon, she climbs up the steps and takes a drink and then says “Mama, your turn”.

And probably the sweetest thing she has started doing is when we drop John off at work each morning, she says, “Daddy, kiss!” and he opens the door to give her a big kiss. This is new as she used to just blow him a kiss but now, he gets the actual kiss, complete with granola bar remnants. Last night, she was taking a bath and John came in the bathroom as I was walking out. I gave him a quick kiss as we passed (like ships at sea) and Emmy exclaimed that she wanted a kiss too. And of course, she got one.

I love Fridays

Fridays are sack lunch day at Emmy's school and we get to pack a lunch
for her. I think her carrying her lunch box is the cutest thing ever.

I AM NOT A MONKEY!

John and I love monkeys, not sure why, but we do so it only makes sense for that to be a term of endearment for us to use with Emmy. This morning, I called her a monkey and she screamed, “I am not a monkey! I am Emmy!” Alrighty then. She has been doing this a lot lately any time I call her anything, such as silly. I have been trying to get her to learn her whole name and that she lives on Walker, just in case something happens. When I ask “Emmy who?” she replies with “Emmy Ruth”. It’s  a start.

Big Girl

This is a girl that slept in her big girl bed all night long!!! Mama, on the other hand, lay awake in her bed, very lonely for her munchkin. I bet I got up a dozen times to check on her and she was perfectly fine. I am so proud of her. And John and I!!!
